He is a complete dick all the time and Nugget is nothing but pure joy and he doesn’t understand it. Writing Nugget is a lot of fun because she gets to be Dr. So, I created a daughter for Meat Boy and Bandage Girl named Nugget and the story became Meat Boy and Bandage Girl fighting to get Nugget back from Dr. I didn’t want to do the same thing over again and I wanted Meat Boy and Bandage Girl’s relationship to be familiar to me and I wanted the Super Meat Boy Forever story to reflect what I was going through. Also around this time, I was trying to figure out what the story for a Super Meat Boy sequel would be. Are there any unique stories to how you created a certain character?Īt the very end of 2016, my wife Shannon and I were starting to plan our family. You can’t beat a human (especially Kyle Pulver, one of our game designers) when it comes to designing compelling levels. Instead of trying to write algorithms that make compelling levels, we hand designed and decorated compelling levels, ranked them by difficulty and gave the game the ability to smash them together like LEGOs.
Meat Boy and Bandage Girl have to get Nugget back! What kind of challenges did you encounter designing the game with randomly generated levels? Fetus has not changed at all and is still a dick so he kidnaps Nugget after knocking Meat Boy and Bandage Girl out with a surprise shovel attack. Meat Boy and Bandage Girl now have a little girl named Nugget. Where does the story pick up from Super Meat Boy? Those are randomly pieced together to create a new Meat Boy experience each time you play. Levels are randomly pieced together from “level chunks,” which are small levels we design that are about the size of an original Super Meat Boy level…we’re making 7200 of those. Super Meat Boy Forever is the sequel to Super Meat Boy. We still don’t know precisely when Meat Boy and family will debut this year on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but hopefully, this will satiate you until then. Tommy Refenes ( who handles everything and anything from production to writing to business stuff at Team Meat was kind enough to spill some beans on Nugget and what exactly will be different about the sequel from the original. That’s right we’re talking Super Meat Boy Forever, people! This week’s Indie Game Spotlight shines a, uh, light on one of the most anticipated sequels of the year. I have no plans of ripping the ROM or even sharing it to the general public.Indie Game Spotlight: Super Meat Boy Forever
They never responded and ever since that incident I preserved the disc in a box full of old stuff. I was pretty confused about what I just saw and therefore contacted the website that I got the disc from about it, but to no avail. When you press the start button the game crashes and thus becoming inaccessible. It goes back to the title screen abruptly, this time not showing Meat Boy.
At the end of the cutscene he pushes Bandage Girl into the lava which causes her to burn to death as well. Fetus pushes him in lava, causing him to burn to death. However, he fails in getting back Bandage Girl as Dr. Fetus taking Bandage girl at the end of each level were much more violent.īut at the boss fight, there is actual forest fire that isn’t present in the final, and instead of Meat Boy’s usual sprite, it is instead replaced with a sprite of him being burnt alive.Īt the end of the boss, there is another cutscene of Meat Boy confronting Dr. The levels were extremely different and the animations of Dr. I thought it was weird but like I said multiple times, it’s a prototype disc and the levels probably weren’t finished at the time. However, only 3 levels were accessible, the boss included. The Forest was the only accessible chapter since I’m assuming the rest of the chapters weren’t finished at the time. The start was normal and everything was working perfectly. It didn’t have a box around the text, and sound effects are used that weren’t included in the final game. The real disc was only a burnt disc with “Meat Boy” at the top and “Do not share!!!” at the side of it, as well as “Prototype 8195” at the bottom of the disc.Īs I expected since this was a prototype disc, the cutscene had some minor changes. On July 22nd 2009, I was able to get my hands on a prototype copy of the indie platformer game Super Meat Boy after it was accidentally listed on an obscure game website that listed the game 1 year early
